Joncryl® 601
Technical Data Sheet Product Description Joncryl® 601 is designed to significantly increase the printing process efficiency of water-based flexographic inks, thus leading to cleaner and more defined print images. Key Features & Benefits - Higher transfer rates - Faster resolubility - Cleaner printing Chemical Composition An aqueous solution of an acrylamide polymer Properties Typical Characteristics Appearance colorless, highly viscous liquid Solid Content 12.5% pH 7.5 Acid Value < 1 Viscosity at 25°C (Brookfield 20 rpm) 1,300 cps Density at 20°C 1.05 g/cm³ Applications Joncryl® 601 is an aqueous solution of an acrylamide polymer. The product is designed to significantly increase the printing process efficiency of water-based flexographic inks. The special polymer backbone of Joncryl® 601 provides a strong self-cohesion property thus resulting in very high transfer rates of the ink from the Anilox cylinder to the plate cylinder of the printing machine and from there to the substrate. In letterpress printing, Joncryl® 601 improves the open time on the press without affecting the drying rate on paper, thus giving faster resolubility and cleaner printing. November 2010 Rev 1 Page 1 of 2 Processing Although use of Joncryl® 601 typically allows running of the printing machine at higher speed, care must be taken to avoid flying. For this reason, the addition level of Joncryl® 601 should be limited to a max. 3% of the total ink formulation. Joncryl® 601 must only be added to the let-down phase of the ink. Under no circumstances should this additive be put in the grinding base since this will render it ineffective and considerably reduce the color development of the base. Since any component present in a formulation can have significant impact on the overall coating properties, compatibility and dosage level should always be checked in the actual formulation. Recommended Concentrations Waterborne Flexographic Inks (based on total formulation) 2.0 – 3.0% Joncryl® 601 Safety General The usual safety precautions when handling chemicals must be observed. These include the measures described in Federal, State, and Local health and safety regulations, thorough ventilation of the workplace, good skin care, and wearing of protective goggles.
